From her funeral program:
"Evelyn Joslyn Shepard was born November 12, 1896 in Charleston, Missouri to Otis Wilbra and Augusta Danforth Joslyn. She was a graduate of the Charleston High School and graduated from the University of Missouri in 1918. She married Clyde Lindley Shepard on June 2, 1918 in Moberly, Missouri. She was a member of Calvary Episcopal Chursh, the Calvary Episcopal Morning Guild and was a Delta Gamma alumni and a member of Kings Daughters.
"She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Rennau H. Ross of Santa Fe, New Mexico; one Sister, Hope Rogers of Arlington, Virginia; four Grandchildren, seven Great-Grandchildren and many Nieces and Nephews.
"She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and two sisters."
She told this story of her wedding: She and Clyde were travelling together by train back to St. Louis. Clyde was on his way to report to the Army. Clyde suggested that they get off the train in Mexico and get married, which is what they did.
Garland Russell writes: "My mother said that she was the only one of the Joslyn girls who was satisfied with the name she was given. Her three sisters all changed their names when they became adults. Your grandmother, named for aunts Anne Libby and Evelyn Danforth, did not (like) the sound of two accented syllables at the beginning. So when she was a(t) college, she reversed the order, which sounded better to her, and, frankly does to me, also."
She was a member of Delta Gamma at the University of Missouri. She met Clyde Shepard through his sister Cyrene, who was also a Delta Gamma.
She may have gone to school for two years at Cape Girardeau before coming to the University of Missouri. She had a contract to teach in Charleston, but Evelyn Shepard Ross doesn't know if she ever taught.

"THOMAS LARRABEE, settled in Scarborough; fled to Kittery, 1790 [1690]; returned at the second settlement of Scarborough; was killed by the Indians, with his son Anthony, 19 April 1723."
According to Saco Valley Settlements and Families by G.T. Ridlon, Sr., the father of Thomas was probably Stephen Larrabee, brother of William Larrabee
from Saco Valley Settlements and Families:
"...another son of Stephen Larrabee, who evidently went from Malden to North Yarmouth, and one of the seven brothers called 'loving kinsmen' in the will of William Larrabee, of Malden, dated 1692. Thomas is said to have been born in 1660, and in 1681 was a land owner in Scarborough, but at the time of the Indian war of 1686 he retired to Kittery or Portsmouth,* where some of his children were born and married....Mr. Larrabee returned to his plantation in 1721, and on April 19, 1723 while at work in the field some distance from his house was, with his son Anthony, killed by the Indians....A record of the death of Thomas and his son stands on the town book as follows: 'The deth of Thomas Lereby and his son Anthony Lereby who was killed by the Ingons April 19, 1723.' Mr Larrabee was a worthy man who experienced during the trying times many vicissitudes, and his loss was deeply lamented by the towns-people.
"* Thomas Larrabee, probably this man, was pressed into the service for 'watching and guarding' for two months by John Usher, commander-in-chief of the forces in New Hampshire, at Dover, Sept 29, 1696; was in Fort William and Mary at Newcastle, N.H., between July 7 and 17, 1708, and for two weeks in a scouting party under Capt. John Davis, in 1712. Thomas Larrabee and family were set off to Stratham, N.H. March 14, 1715; was proprietor of 120 acres of land in Barrington, N.H. in 1722. He was identified with various real estate matters of which record was made during his residence in New Hampshire. Some of the statemnts of later date may relate to his son Thomas."

257. Rebecca Marlowe, died Bef. July 26, 1669.
Notes for Thomas Joslin:
"Thomas Joslin, as he spelled the name, probably received his portion of his father's estate at the time of his marriage, as his father, in his will of 1626, bequeathed to him only 5 pounds.
"In Apr. 1635 he embarked for New England in the Increase of London, the passenger list containing the names of Tho: Jostlin, husbandman [farmer] aged 43, Rebecca his wife, aged 43, Eliza: Ward, a maid servant, aged 38, and the following children of the said Tho: Jostlin: Rebecca, aged 18, Dorothy, aged 11, Nathaniell, aged 8, Eliza, aged 6, and Mary, aged 1. On his arrival in New England he settled in Hingham, where he was a proprietor and town officer, and bought land of his son-in-law Thomas Nichols in 1638. He and his son Nathaniel sold their lands at Hingam 11 March 1652/3 to George Lane and Moses Collier, and removed to Lancaster, where Thomas signed the civil compact 12 Nov. 1654. In his will, dated 9 May 1660 and proved 2 Apr. 1661, he appoints his wife Rebecca executrix, and mentions his sons Abraham and Nathaniel, grandson Abraham (son of Abraham), and daughters Rebecca Nichols, wife of Thomas, Mary Sumner, wife of Roger, and Elizabeth 'Emons.'
"...It also seems probable that, having no children of his own to inherit his property, Henry Josselyn induced his kinsman Thomas to send to him his eldest son Abraham, intending to make him his heir. Abraham certainly went to Scarborough, Me., and lived there for seven years. Whether he quarrelled with his kinsman or tired of the wilderness is not clear, but he returned to his relatives in Lancaster. He died several years before his kinsman Henry, and it is not known what disposition was made of the property of the latter.
"The Joslyn family in England was easily traced because they lived in the same house, Hyde Hall in Hertfordshire, for about 800 years beginning about 1100. When our ancestor left, the house was occupied by his younger brother, whose descendants eventually become the Dukes of Roden, with the result that the Joslyn coat-of-arms, which is theirs, not ours, is in one of the windows of the House of Lords. When Charles I was short of money he raised extra cash by knighting prosperous gentry and charging them heavily for the honor. The story is that Thomas Joslyn found out that he was about to be knighted and in order to avoid th expense fled to Boston. You may conclude what you will about his priorities." (FGR 9/10/92)

Notes for John Josselyn:
"...bried at Roxwell 18 Feb. 1578/9." EONEF
"John Josselyn is first of record at Fyfield, where he lived for a year and a half, at least, after his marriage. Between 16 June 1546, when he is taxed at Fyfield, and 20 Apr. 1547, when he is taxed at Chignal-Smealy, he moved to the latter parish, six miles northeast from Fyfield, although one of his children was later baptized in the latter place, probably while her mother was visiting relatives. At some time between 1551/2 and 1561 he moved to Roxwell, which lies between Fyfield and Chignal-Smealy, and there he lived the rest of his life. A glance at the map of Essex shows how close to the old ancestral seats of the family this branch of it remained. Fyfield is six miles from Great Canfield, seven miles from Newhall Josselyn in High Roding (both parishes being in co. Essex), five miles from Hide Hall in Sawbridgeworth, co. Herts, and two miles from Torrell's Hall, anciently called Shellow-Jocelyn, in Willingale-Doe, co. Essex. Roxwell is six miles from Newhall Josselyn, ten miles from Hide Hall, two miles from Torrell's Hall, seven miles from Great Canfield, and five miles from Fyfield. By a fine dated 1 and 18 May 1573 John Josselyn acquired of Willam Water the property called Bollinghatch in Newland hamlet in the parish of Roxwell, consisting of a house, garden, orchard, one hundred and forty acres of land, ten acres of meadow, ten acres of pasture, and ten acres of wood. This property, now called Boldinghatch, lies about two miles northeast from the church at Roxwell and about half a mile from Good Easter, co. Essex, where in the next generation a kinsman of John Josselyn, Rev. Jeffry Josslyn, held the living for fifty years. John Josselyn held Bollinghatch of the manor of Newland Hall, the lord of the manor, Edward Elliot, being a connection by marriage, his daughter Elizabeth having married Thomas Young, third cousin of John Josselyn. At the time of this death John Josselyn also held of the Queen a house and land called Searles in Roxwell, with other land in Roxwell held of the manor of Fambridge End and land called Thistledowns in Shellow-Bowels and Willingale-Doe held of Henry Josselyn as of his manor of Torrell's Hall." Notes for Sir Ralph Jocelyn:
"Sir Ralph, Knight, b. at Sawbridgeworth, co. Herts; d. s.p. Oct. 1478; m. (1) Margery---; m. (2) Phillipa Malpas, who was living 28 Jan. 1450/1, when her husband bought the manor of Aspenden hall, co. Herts, dau. of Phillip, Lord Mayor of London in 1448; m. (3) Elizabeth Barley, dau. of William or Henry of Aspendon, co. Herts. Elizabeth (Barley) Jocelyn m. (2) Sir Robert Clifford of Breakenborough, Knight, third s. of Lord Clifford, and d. between 1 May 1525 and 20 July 1526. The church at Long Melford, co. Suffolk, contains a fine, old, stained-glass window representing Sir Robert Clifford, his wife Elizabeth, and her first husband, Sir Ralph Jocelyn. Sir Ralph is first of record in 1433, as of Aspenden, being mentioned as one able to spend 10 pounds, perhaps in anticipation of a royal loan. He was a member of the Company of Drapers of London (dealers in cloth or clothing and dry goods), was elected alderman from Cornhill Ward 29 Nov. 1456, was master of the Company of Drapers in 1457-8, sheriff in 1458-9, auditor in 1464, lord mayor in 1464-5, and was created a Knight of the Bath by Edward IV at the coronation of his queen, Elisabeth Woodville, 24 May 1465. he was a member of Parliament for London in 1467, and was again elected Lord Mayor in 1476. In his mayoralty Sir Ralph had the wall of London repaired between Aldgate and Aldersgate and the Fleet Ditch cleaned. He also corrected the abuses of the bakers and victuallers. In 1471, in the Wars of the Roses, when the Kentish levies under Thomas Neville, the Bastard of Fauconbridge, attacked Bishipsgate and Aldgate, London, in an attempt to rescue Henry VI from his imprisonment in the Tower, Sir Ralph raised forces and, sallying forth, defeated Neville and his men. From the point of view of public service he was certainly the most prominent man of the family. He was bur. in St. Swithin's Church, Longdon, of which he was a benefactor, in 'a fair tomb,' which was destroyed in the Great Fire in 1666. A memorial brass, no longer in existence, was erected to his memory in the church at Sawbridgeworth, co. herts, bearing the following inscription: 'Orate pro anima Radulphi Joslyne quondam militis et bis Maioratus Ciuitatis London qui obitt xxv. Octob. M. ccc. lxvii.' Because of this brass some writers have stated that he was bur. in the Sawbridgeworth church. The inquisition post mortem on his estate shows that he died seised of the manors of Lynclehade and Southcote in co. Bucks; the manor of Chadewell in Chadewell, Thurrock, East Tilbury, and West Tilbury, the manor of Bursted, and lands and tenements in West Ham, all of co. Essex; and the manor of Aspenden hall in the parishes of Buntingford, Layston, Throcking, Wyddial, Wakeley, and Westmill, and the manor of Anstey, all in co. Herts; and that his heir was George Josselyn, aged 50 years and more at the death of the said Ralph, son of his brother Thomas."

268435456. Gilbert Jocelyn , Sir, died 1131.
Notes for Gilbert Jocelyn , Sir:
Sir Gilbert Jocelyn (Gilbertus Joselinus), a wealthy Norman knight, came into England with William the Conqueror, married the daughter of a Saxon thane (a freeman granted land by the King in return for military service), lived in Lincolnshire and held lordships of Semperingham and Tyrrington. Tradition says he was the son of Egidius Josselin, a nobleman of Brittany, who came to England about 1045, in the reign of Edward the Confessor. Gilbert was born in England, went to Normandy and returned to England with the Conqueror. His son was St. Gilbert of Semperingham 1083 or 1089-1189, cannonized in 1202 by Pope Innocent III. February 4 is his feast day. EONEF, FGR
"Lodge, in his peerage of Ireland, vol. 3, p 259, of the revised edition of 1789, asserts that 'the family derives its descent from Carolus Magnus, King of France, with more certainty than the houses of Loraine or Guise, who so highly boast of it.'" EONEF
Children of Gilbert Jocelyn , Sir are:
i. Gilbert Jocelyn, born ABT 1083 in Semperingham, Lincoln County, England; died February 4, 1188/89.
Notes for Gilbert Jocelyn:
"...b. at Semperingham, co. Lincoln, in 1083 or 1089; d. 4 Feb. 1189; "...bur. in his abbey church at Semperingham, between the altars of St. Mary and St. Andrew. he was educated in France, and, returning to Semperingham, devoted himself to works of charity, and instructed in religion and literature the young people of the neighborhood. He became a priest, and held the livings of Semperingham and Tyrrington. He was clerk to the Bishop of London, but refused to accept the office of Archdeacon of Lincoln. He founded at Semperingham an order for monks and nuns which was later known as the Gilbertine Order. May miracles are said to have been wrought for those who prayed at his tomb, and in 1202 he was canonized by Pope Innocent III as St. Gilbert of Semperingham, 4 Feb. being his commemoration day.
"Cf. Rose Graham's St. Gilbert of Sempringham and the Gilbertines. Miss Graham thinks that the age given for St. Gilbert at his death -- 106 years -- should be 100 years, the Latin word senex, 'old', having been probably mistaken for the Latin sex, 'six.' EONEF
